Excavator Orange Peel Grapple is a kind of grabbing equipment commonly used in steel mills, scrap processing plants and other places, named because its grab shape is similar to an orange flap, mainly used for grabbing and handling scrap steel, pig iron and other materials.
Grapple control:
1. open the grab: through the control handle or button on the operation table, move to the direction of opening, the hydraulic cylinder pushes the orange flap to open slowly, until it reaches the maximum opening angle.
2. Position the material: operate the walking and slewing mechanism of the steel grabbing machine, move the grab to the top of the material to be grabbed, adjust the position of the grab so that the center of the grab is aligned with the center of the material pile.
3. Closing the grab: slowly operate the control handle in the direction of closing, the orange flap will be closed gradually to grab the material. In the process of closing, you need to pay attention to observe the closing strength of the grab to avoid overloading the grab (such as obvious jamming of the grab, the pressure of the hydraulic system abnormally high, you should stop the closure and adjust the position of the material).
4. Lifting the grab: after confirming that the grab has firmly grabbed the material, operate the lifting handle to slowly lift the grab to a certain height from the ground (generally 0.5-1 meters, to avoid collision with the ground or other objects).

1. Material types and forms
Type:Clearly grab the specific type of material (such as scrap steel, pig iron, steel slag, ore, construction waste, wood, etc.), the physical characteristics of different materials (hardness, sharpness, corrosiveness) to determine the material and structure of the grapple.
Example: scrap steel edge sharp, need to grapple edge with wear-resistant high manganese steel; steel slag is easy to stick at high temperature, need to grapple surface smooth and high temperature.
Shape:The material is lumpy (such as large pieces of scrap steel), granular (such as ore) or loose (such as slag)? Lumpy materials need grabs with strong gripping power, loose materials need large volume grabs.
2. Material weight and density
Measure the average weight and maximum weight of a single grab material, combined with the density of the material (such as scrap density of about 7.8 tons / cubic meter, slag density of about 1.5 tons / cubic meter) to determine the rated load and volume of the grab.
For example, if you need to grab 2 tons of scrap with high density, the rated lifting capacity of the grapple should be at least 2.2-2.4 tons (with 10%-20% safety margin).
3. Special properties
Are the materials high temperature (e.g. steel slag temperature 800-1200℃), wet (e.g. harbor materials), corrosive (e.g. chemical waste) or flammable and explosive? High temperature resistant coating, waterproof sealing or explosion-proof grabs need to be selected.
4. Site conditions
Space constraints:The length, width and height of the working area (such as the headroom of the indoor plant), the turning radius and lifting height of the grapple need to be adapted to avoid collision with obstacles.
Example: If you need to work in a warehouse with a height of 5 meters, the maximum lifting height of the steel grabbing machine should be at least 6 meters (including the height of the grab).
Ground load bearing:Confirm the ground bearing capacity of the operation site (such as concrete hardened ground or soft ground), tracked steel grabbing machine has less pressure on the ground, and wheeled type needs solid ground.
5. Operation Scene
Indoor / Outdoor: Indoor operation should pay attention to the size of the equipment (e.g. whether the width is suitable for the porch), while outdoor operation should consider the impact of wind, rain and dust on the equipment (e.g. waterproofing and dustproofing of the hydraulic system).
Fixed station / mobile operation: if you need to transfer frequently, wheeled grippers are more convenient to move; for fixed sites (e.g. steel mill yard), you can choose crawler type.
6. Frequency and duration of operation
Is it a high-frequency continuous operation (e.g. more than 8 hours per day) or a low-frequency intermittent operation? High-frequency operation requires strong durability and good heat dissipation system to avoid overheating of the hydraulic system.
